In chilled transport, we don’t just focus on the transport of products but also of live insects and worms. These are used, for example, as bait or to combat pests. To transport them healthy and alive, the correct temperature during transport is important. Refrigerants and insulation packaging help you with this.
In Europe there are several leading companies that daily market so-called nematodes (nematodes). Nematodes are mainly used in controlling soil pests. Nematodes are best stored and transported at a temperature between 2 °C and 7 °C, because the nematodes die when frozen.
In addition, the Netherlands also plays an important role in the export of fish and sea worms, which are used worldwide as bait for bass and larger fish. These living worms are usually transported chilled: for example packed in an EPS box in combination with gel packs.
Our customers in this specific industry mainly opt for the standard gel pack of 340 or 400 grams. Many customers use these gel packs in combination with EPS boxes for good insulation.

In practice, environmentally unfriendly materials are frequently used to control the temperature in the packaging to prevent spoilage or reduction in quality. In recent decades, materials such as EPS, EPP, polypropylene and polyethylene have been used for this application, which have the disadvantage that they are not degradable in nature.
