Ways to transport groceries and meals fresh

To keep fresh products ‘fresh’, chilled and frozen transport facilities are often helpful. You may immediately think of a refrigerated or freezer van, but in many cases this is not the ideal outcome. Besides the fact that you lose a bit of flexibility when you have to reserve the van in advance or depend on availability, this is also not the most sustainable solution. After all, a lot of energy and capacity is wasted if you cannot use the space in the van optimally. For example, when the level of your orders to be delivered is unpredictable and irregular, leaving valuable space unused.

For this reason, well-insulated refrigerated packaging is often chosen. This has the advantage that you do not need electricity during transport (because you cool the cooling elements to the desired temperature before transport) and that you can transport your products in a means of transport of your choice. This makes it often a more sustainable solution for refrigerated and frozen transport of fresh products such as meals and groceries.

Suitable packaging materials for refrigerated transport

Which packaging materials are most suitable for you depends on your application and logistics processes:

Transport without return procedure. If you work with an external transport partner or for some other reason you do not have the option to take packaging materials back, single-use packaging materials are a suitable solution. You can use an EPS box in combination with gel packs for this. A more environmentally conscious alternative to the EPS box is the EcoCoolBox.

Transport with a return procedure. If you have transport facilities under your own management and can therefore take packaging materials with you, you can opt for tools with a long lifespan. The EPP boxes in combination with strong, form-retaining cooling elements are a solution. Supermarkets that deliver groceries at home are, for example, users of this transport box. You can place the products to be transported here in simple packaging during transport, and lift them out of the EPP box for home delivery. This way you can reuse the EPP boxes and form-retaining cooling elements time and time again.

Cooling plate with handle

For both dieprvies and refrigerated shipping of meals, we offer (custom) cooling trays. Also for gastronorm and a perfect fit in our EPP coolers. Available from stock at 0 °C and -18 °C, but we can run them at any temperature between -65 °C and +89 °C.

The EPP cooler is a highly insulated, reusable box widely used by home delivery drivers. The cooler is strong, lightweight, easy to clean and has practical features such as handles and sticker fields. At Coolpack, we supply custom cooling plates for against the walls and lid, so your meals stay within the desired temperature – even in extreme external conditions!
