Cooling elements: dimensionally stable and suitable for any application
For certain products to arrive at their destination in optimal condition, refrigerated transport is crucial. One of the ways to ship your goods chilled is by using form-fixed cooling elements. At Coolpack you will find dimensionally stable cooling elements in all shapes and sizes. Because of this wide range, it can be difficult to determine which dimensionally stable cooling element is most suitable for your application. We will therefore tell you more about the different types and applications of cooling elements.
What are dimensionally stable cooling elements?
As the name actually suggests, shape-retaining refrigerants are refrigerants that retain their shape in both frozen and unfrozen condition. This is different from gel packs, for example, which are flexible when unfrozen and can therefore change shape. Especially when there is little room for slack in the packaging or during freezing, shape-retaining cooling elements are recommended.
Cooling elements are great for repeated use
Another feature of form-fitting cooling elements is that they are strong and durable. This ensures that the cooling elements are suitable for repeated use. This is ideal for shipments with a return process. Not all types of form-fixed cooling elements are equally suitable for repeated use. For example, cooling blocks and cooling plates lend themselves better to repeated use than sponge packs and foambricks. The reason for this is that cooling blocks and cooling plates have a form-fit exterior and are therefore less fragile.
Cooling elements for refrigerated or conditioned transport
Moulded cooling elements are used for the refrigerated (or conditioned) transport of goods. You can think of different types of products that need to be transported protected from A to B. Sectors in which form-fixed cooling elements are frequently used are the food industry (e.g. supermarkets, fish, meat and AGF), web shops and the medical sector(pharmacy and blood transport).

What transports can be bridged with refrigerated elements?
Form-fixed cooling elements are typically used for shipments of up to 24 hours. Depending on the type of packaging and the amount of refrigeration, even longer transports can be bridged well. Regular cooling elements are designed to transport goods between 2 and 8 degrees. For other temperature ranges, Phase Change Material can be a godsend. With this, temperatures from -21 to +20 degrees Celsius can be achieved. Coolpack’s cooling elements are non-toxic and food proof. This means that the gel can come into contact with food without posing a health risk.
Why and when are dimensionally stable cooling elements the ideal solution?
Form-fixed cooling elements are the ideal solution when you have limited space available in the packaging. Moreover, the form-fixed cooling elements are suitable for transport where there is a return flow: in fact, the cooling elements lend themselves well to repeated use because they are made of sturdy material.
What form-fitting cooling element do you need?
Within form-fixed cooling elements, there are several options. For example, there are different types of cooling elements, think cooling blocks, cooling plates, foamricks and sponge packs. To ensure that you can make the right choice, we explain the different cooling elements in more detail. For additional advice, you can always contact our experts, who will be happy to think along with you about a customized solution.
Cooling blocks: strong and durable refrigerants
We offer cooling blocks in a wide range of sizes. This ensures that there is a suitable size for every application. Is the size you want not among them? Then you can contact us for information about the possibilities for customization. The cooling blocks can be filled with different types of cooling gel, making them suitable for refrigerated transport from -21 to +20 degrees Celsius. The cooling blocks are often used in pharmacy, camping, the food industry, retail and by webshops. Because the cooling blocks are reusable, they are ideal for deliveries with a return process.
Cooling plates: ideal for coolers or refrigerated containers
The cooling plates are also strong, durable cooling elements. The plates are ideal for use in coolers or refrigerated containers. The cooling plates are also widely used for ice cream carts or catering as they allow the user to keep products at temperature without electricity. The cooling plates are available for operating temperatures down to -21 degrees Celsius. They are available in some standard sizes. Thus, gastronorm cooling trays and freezer trays are very popular among caterers, market vendors and transporters of fresh or frozen products. Some cooling trays also include a handle, making them easy to use.
Foambricks: dimensionally stable under all temperature conditions
Foambricks offer a thermal solution for transporting temperature-sensitive products. A foam brick consists of a block of foam, cooling gel and a strong, vacuum-packed casing. Due to the use of materials and vacuum packaging, both the weight and shape of this type of cooling element is consistent under different conditions. The foambrick is particularly widely used in the medical sector. This is due to the fact that the elements maintain their shape under all temperature conditions, and thus fit well in compact spaces.
The foambricks are supplied in various standard sizes, but there are also options for customized solutions. You can also choose a version with bubble wrap on the top, for example to give extra protection to fragile medicines during transport or to prevent freezing damage. Moreover, the foambricks can be filled with both standard cooling gel and Phase Change Material (PCM), allowing you to transport your goods at many different temperatures. Read more about PCM and the possibilities with this special cooling gel later in this brochure.
The spongepack always returns to its original shape
The Spongepack resembles the foambrick in many ways. However, the spongepack is characterized by the fact that instead of a foam filling, a sponge filling is used. This makes the spongepack more flexible when unfrozen. Moreover, the spongepack will always return to its original shape, where this is not the case with a foambrick. The spongepacks are supplied in several standard sizes, but there are also options for customized solutions. Personalize your cooling elements
If desired, the cooling elements can also be provided with an appropriate label or your own logo. For example, the cooling elements can be printed with your company name or a warning or instruction. At Coolpack, printing in one color is already possible with the purchase of one box. For larger quantities, it is even possible to print the cooling elements in full color.
Are you interested in personalized cooling elements? If so, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to tell you what the possibilities are for customization. For other questions about our cooling elements, you can of course always contact our experts.
