Refrigerated transport

In order to transport products refrigerated, it is important to choose the right cooling elements. There are requirements for what products should be transported under what conditions and temperatures. Because the requirements and wishes differ, there are also different cooling elements available.

We recommend the following products for products above freezing up to 8 degrees: gel packs, segmented gel packs, form-fitting gel packs and cooling blocks. If the products must be transported with temperatures around freezing, we recommend Phase Change Material (PCM) gel packs.

Types of cooling elements

There are different types of cooling elements that all have unique workings. Below we list them and further highlight their properties.

  • Cooling Elements from Phase Change Material (PCM)
PCM is a material whose phase changes are used to protect the temperature of products. The material absorbs energy to be used at a later time. Coolpack produces several cooling elements made from this material. The material works from temperatures of -21 º C to + 21 º C. The properties of PCM can be adjusted according to personal requirements. Thus, the material can be delivered frozen, chilled or at room temperature.
  • Form-fixed cooling elements
There are also cooling elements available that are form-fixed. Some cooling elements, such as a gel pack, can take a different shape when frozen than desired. A form-fixed cooling element is then the solution. A form-fixed cooling element can be a foambrick, spongebrick or hard cooling elements that can achieve the desired shape. These cooling elements are often chosen when there is limited space in transportation.
  • Gelpacks
To transport goods in a safe and refrigerated manner, it is extremely important to purchase the right quality gel packs. Gelpacks are the most common type and the most ideal cooling element. In fact, gel packs cool goods between 0 and 8 degrees. For temperatures lower than 0 degrees, PCM can be chosen. Gelpacks come in different sizes and types, so you can find the perfect solution for transportation. Coolpack offers the following gel packs:

    • Original gel packs; The original gel packs are strong, have a longer cooling time and can be printed.
    • No Sweat gel packs; No Sweat gel packs are designed with a multi-layer non-residential exterior that minimizes surface condensation.
    • Kraft gel packs; Kraft paper is strong and durable, the long paper fibers are pressed together very tightly, creating a high density.

Markets

There are many diverse markets that transport products that require the products to be transported refrigerated.

  1. Webshops
Webshops can be used very easily and it is a means on which many entrepreneurs can buy all kinds of products. For example, fresh products such as fish, meat, fresh meals and fruit. It is therefore certainly advisable to keep the products fresh by means of refrigeration to keep the quality high. This can be done using gel packs, PCM and form-fixed cooling elements. The most commonly used cooling elements are gel packs of 200, 340, 400, 500 and 907 grams.
  • Biotechnology and Flowers
Naturally, you want to keep flowers beautiful and fresh for as long as possible. For this, it is important that the flowers are transported in the right way. This is done by transporting them with sufficient refrigeration. Therefore, the transport process should not only contribute to a shorter freshness of the flowers, but also a longer one. Because, of course, we all want the flowers to have a colorful appearance for as long as possible. The most commonly used cooling element is the 200-gram gel pack.
  • Pharmaceuticals and Medical
Pharmaceuticals and medical products require specialized temperature-controlled transportation. Maintaining the right temperature and preventing the release of liquids are the biggest challenges when transporting medical products. Coolpack supplies various solutions for this. The most commonly used cooling element is the 680-gram gel pack.
  • Meat and Fish
Fish is one of the most important fresh products to transport refrigerated. In fact, fish can quickly become spoiled if not transported correctly. Consumers want fresh fish, and in order to achieve this goal, proper mode refrigeration is crucial. For transporting fish by air, gel packs are ideal because the use of ice is prohibited on airplanes. This makes it possible to transport fish fresh anywhere. Gel packs are also ideal for transporting crustaceans, because the cooling causes the crustacean to go into a kind of shock that keeps them still for the entire trip. The most commonly used cooling packs are the 300 and 400 gram gel packs.
  • Reuse

Coolpack supplies different types of cooling elements. Cooling blocks are cooling elements that can be reused. Depending, of course, on what the particular cooling element was used for, each cooling element must be thoroughly cleaned before reuse. Cooling blocks are specifically designed for reuse. They are made of hard plastic and can take quite a beating. Gel packs are more often used for one-way operation. These cooling elements are therefore cheaper than cooling blocks, which are often used for multiple shipments.
