Recently, we put our energy into a new issue: how do we ensure that by 2023 a more sustainable variant is available for all our products where possible? With due pride, we now also offer environmentally friendly gel packs. We would be happy to tell you more about this.
The applications of Gelpacks
Gel packs are used for the refrigerated and conditioned transport of goods. These include fresh fish, meat, cut flowers and medical products. Gel packs are also used for the shipment of other foodstuffs that must remain chilled or conditioned. Gel packs are suitable for cooling at 0 to 8 degrees and are usually used for shipments of up to 48 hours, without a return procedure. If products need to be shipped below freezing or warmer than 8 degrees, the gel packs can be filled with Phase Change Material (PCM).

Environmentally conscious alternatives
Making environmentally conscious(r) choices when it comes to transporting goods can be done in many ways. For example, you can choose to switch from PA-PE gel packs to the Original Gelpacks or Kraft Gelpacks. This ensures that the film consists of fewer layers, so less polyethylene needs to be used for a gel pack. To give you even more freedom of choice to achieve more environmentally conscious transport, we now also offer various alternatives for the foils and refrigerated gel pack liners. You can combine these two elements as desired to achieve the ideal environmentally conscious gel packs for your application.
Alternative films for the gel packs
For the film of your gel packs, in addition to regular film, we also offer you the choice of a film based on sugarcane and a film based on 35-40% recycled material.
Please note that when you choose film based on 35-40% recycled material, the gel pack loses the food safe certificate. This makes a gel pack with this film not suitable for transporting food products. When you choose film based on sugar cane, the food-safe certificate does remain intact. This makes this film a suitable alternative.
Alternative refills for the gel packs
We also offer several alternatives for gel pack filling. For example, you can choose from cellulose-based cooling fill, UV-treated water cooling fill and PCM free of microplastics.
With the cellulose-based refrigerated filling and the UV-treated water refrigerated filling, you can transport goods from 0 to 8°C. Do you transport your goods at a different temperature? Then PCM free of microplastics is a good alternative for filling gel packs. PCM is suitable for transport at a temperature of -23 °C to +21 °C.
The EcoCoolBox: sustainable packaging for your transportation
If you want to transport in a more environmentally conscious way, not only can you customize the gel packs with us, but you can also choose sustainable packaging. The EcoCoolBox consists mainly of cardboard (fibers). The cardboard fibers are packed in a flexible and breathable paper package. The cardboard fibers are completely safe: they comply with the European directives for food contact. This makes the EcoCoolBox ideal for use when transporting AGF, fish and complete meal packages.
